Security Improvements for Phoenix Comic Fest 2018

Security Improvements for Phoenix Comic Fest 2018

We’ve learned the hard lessons from our 2016 and 2017 entrance fiascos and look forward to re-earning your trust this year. The goal is to admit every attendee safely and quickly and to limit time spent outside in lines. Our Redemption, Metal Detector, and RFID scanning stations will be covered by tents. Our enhanced screening procedures are staffed by Pride Group, a leader in outdoor and special event management.

Check out the video below to see all of our security improvements for Phoenix Comic Fest 2018. Make sure to also visit our Improvements page to see what else we’ve been working on!

Phoenix Comic Fest Announces Event Improvements

PHOENIX COMIC FEST ANNOUNCES EVENT IMPROVEMENTS
Attendees to see changes in security, photo op, and celebrity panel processes

Phoenix, Arizona, March 2, 2018 — Square Egg Entertainment, Inc, the parent company of Phoenix Comic Fest, spent last week informing attendees of changes to security, event credentials, and overall experience of the event. Attendees can expect a vastly improved experience getting into the event, a smoother experience with celebrity photo ops and autographs, and a better chance of seeing most popular celebrity panels.

Security improvements include twice the number of entrances over last year, walk-through metal detectors, dedicated lines for VIP credential holders, ADA/accessibility, cosplayers, and attendees with clear bags or not bags. The company has also announced their switch to RFID wristbands to ensure a safer experience.

Square Egg Entertainment, Inc. recently announced their partnership with Pride Group, a company that has dealt with many high profile, large events such as the Superbowl, NCAA Championship, Final Four, and more. Rigorous planning over the new security processes has been ongoing for the last eight months.

Improvements have also been made to the overall experience inside the event. Square Egg Entertainment, Inc. announced this week that photo ops for celebrities will be sold in 15-minute time-slots. This change was implemented in order to decrease the time attendees spend in line while also allowing for better crowd management. Attendees will line up right before the scheduled time of their photo op with wait times shortened to about 15 minutes. VIP credential holders will have a dedicated line for photo ops and autographs with guests.

Celebrity panels will no longer offer pre-paid reserved seating options (excluding special events). All standard celebrity panels will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis with a priority access line for VIP credential holders. The main panel room, Ballroom 301 West, has expanded to allow twice the number of attendees into the room. The second celebrity panel room has moved to Ballroom 120 North and will also double in seating room.

Keep up to date with all event improvements on our Improvements page.

Black Panther Review: A Superhero Movie We Can All Love

Black Panther Review: A Superhero Movie We Can All Love

Black Panther crushed box office records with $400M+ debut over the holiday weekend and we can see why. Marvel Studios has always excelled at bringing comic book superheroes to life on the big screen in a way that leaves superhero fans chomping at the bit for more by the time the credits roll. However, Black Panther sets itself apart from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its timeliness, empowering messages, and diversity.

Black Panther is set after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Prince T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) is returning home after his father’s death to take up the mantle of King. Throughout the movie, we follow T’Challa’s journey toward upholding Wakanda’s traditions while at the same time realizing some of those traditions need to be revisited in a different light. While Wakanda appears to be the “poorest country in the world,” it is anything but. Hidden behind a force field is an incredible, technologically-advanced country thanks to vibranium, a rare ore found almost exclusively in Wakanda. It turns out, Wakanda has been protecting this massive store of vibranium to ensure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. But there are some, like Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) and Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) who know of the vibranium and want to get it out into the world.

danai gurira and lupita nyong'o

Supporting our main hero is a cast of really strong, empowering characters who all had their moments to shine, particularly the women. The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira kicks ass and takes names as Okoye, the head of the Wakandan King’s women-only security force, while Lupita Nyong’o uses her stealth and her desire to help those who are less fortunate as Nakia. Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett add considerable gravitas as a Wakandan spiritual guru and T’Challa’s mother, respectively. Then there is Letitia Wright, who nearly steals the spotlight in every scene as T’Challa’s little sister Shuri. Shuri is a tech genius who spends her time building weapons and armor for Black Panther, but her sarcasm and wit adds a wonderful touch of humor to the movie.

The movie has an engaging storyline filled with non-stop action while also paying extra special attention to world-building. We see Wakanda filled with culture, traditions, and ancient rituals, which isn’t something we tend to see focused on in Marvel films. It was refreshing to really be able to explore the world of Wakanda and its culture.

Overall, the movie is a wild ride and Marvel has really stepped it up a notch with the latest installment into their cinematic universe. After watching the movie, we are left to wonder how vibranium will appear and be used in future Marvel movies and how it may or may not affect the Avengers. Then there’s also the matter of the final Infinity Stone — the Soul Stone — and its whereabouts. While it didn’t make an appearance in Black Panther, according to Colliderthere were some major clues in Black Panther that lead us to believe the stone is in Wakanda.

Hopefully, we’ll find out if those clues are right when Avengers: Infinity War Pt I hits theatres this May.
